Sonam Kapoor starrer ‘Neerja‘ the biopic based on the life of late flight attendant Neerja Bhanot’s life was much loved by fans and critics alike. The film won the Best Hindi Feature Film and even earned Sonam Kapoor a special mention at the 64th National Film Awards. But Neerja Bhanot’s family is not happy with the makers of the film and are set to take legal action against the producers.
The family has claimed that the makers have not honoured their commitment to share 10 per cent of the box office collections with the Neerja Bhanot Trust and them.
Neerja Bhanot’s brother Akhil Bhanot has confirmed to us saying that they have sent a legal notice to the makers. Talking about it with an agency, Neerja’s second brother Aneesh Bhanot has given a statement saying, “I will not comment on this issue at this stage. All I can tell you is that we will not tolerate injustice.” [sic]
Further, Aneesh has refused to give any details about the legal case, saying that the family lawyer will be able to give the exact status. Sources suggest that the family has moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
‘Neerja’ told the story of Ashok Chakra awardee Neerja Bhanot. The 22 year old lost her life trying to save passengers on the hijacked Pan Am Flight 73. The biopic was directed by Ram Madhvani and produced by Fox Star Studios and Bling Unplugged, and co-produced by Atul Kasbekar.
We shall soon update you with more on this matter soon.
